Welcome to eNHOLM FAMILY HISTORY
This line of Enholm family history begins with Sigfreid Frans Enholm: his immigration to the U.S., the family he started in America, and his ancestors in Sweden. Ongoing research, photos, documents, and family interviews will add to this website continually. These records and memories are presented with the aim of discovering the personalities and circumstances of our ancestors, with respect to the lives of those who came before us.

Sigfried Frans Enholm immigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1924. After the death of his firstborn baby, Sigfried parted from his wife, boarded a ship and set sail from the port of Goteberg, Sweden. His destination was Quebec, Canada. Once the Swedish Sigfied arrived he made his way from the East coast to the West coast of the United States, to Aberdeen in Washington State. It is not yet known why Aberdeen was chosen as the place to make a new home; however there was an Enholm (indexed as Nion Enholm but may have been mispelled) living in Aberdeen at this time who may have been a relative.
A year passed, and we can assume that Sigfried was working to save money, as his wife Frida left the same port in Sweden; Goteborg, to join Sigfreid in Aberdeen in 1925. A couple of years later Sigfreid's younger brother David August Enolm makes the journey from Sweden and joins Sigfreid and Frida in Aberdeen.
Sigfreid and Frida lived in Hoquiam and Aberdeen, both towns within the county of Grays Harbor, for the remainder of their lives. Sigfried worked as a logger, a carpenter, and later in life as a janitor at the Becker Building. He also enjoyed reading Western novels in his free time. Frida worked at home raising the children (two of whom died at a young age), and from stories passed down we know that she made the children's clothing and crafted home made toys. Frida is remembered by her grandchildren to speak to them in her native language. An assumption can be made that Sigfreid and Frida were religious, as some of their children became lifelong Christians.

As for Sigfreid's brother, David, there is research to be done to learn more of his story. David married, and sent wedding pictures to relatives in Sweden. A family story passed down is that some years after they settled in Aberdeen, David drank an abundance of alcohol during a Thanksgiving family gathering, and threw up on the turkey. Sigfried threw his drunken brother out of the house and it seems that their relationship was strained from this point on.

frans jonsson enholm
Frans Jonsson Enholm was born Frans Jonsson, and later legally changed his last name to Enholm. The family story passed down is that the common name of Jonsson had Frans constantly recieving mistaken bills and mail, indeed it was becoming modernized for Swedes of common last names to adopt one of distinction. Frans was born on the isle of Enholmen (or along the peninsula that connects to Enholmen during lowtide), and this is possibly why he chose the last name Enholm.

In 1853, just 5 years before Frans was born, building of the 'Enholmen batteries' began on the island. After being attacked on several occasions by Denmark and Russia, Sweden began the building of this defense fortress. Frans' father, Elias Jonsson, was the owner of hardware store who lived in Varnamo, approximately 100 miles from the coast lining Enholmen (considerably close). Elias' business would have flourished during this time if he were involved in providing tools for the construction of the fortress.

In 1890, Frans appears newly married to Hilma Margareta Lundqvist in the same county (although different town) where Helena was born- Norbotten. Frans is 32 and Hilma is eleven years yonger at 21 years old. By this time Frans has established his title as a baker. The next year, 1891, Frans and Hilma are in another village (Alvsby) of the same County, where they have their firstborn of 10 children (possibly 11 children as there is another David August Enholm who died at one month old that has yet to be verified through records as being Frans and Hilma's son). The next 7 children are born in the countryside of Pitea (Hilma's birthtown, where we can assume they lived near some of her family), between 1892 and 1901. It is known that Frans sold baked goods to stores, and can be assumed this was in Pitea as the 1900 family census shows his family as 'guests paying rent' in town. In 1902 they are in Langtrask where another son is born.
Langtrask may be where the family remains for decades, as Frans dies here nearly 40 years later at the age of 82. Helena dies six years after Frans at the age of 78.
